Since President Trump appointed three justices to the Supreme Court, the MAGA supermajority has eliminated our right to abortion, made it harder to prevent school shootings, allowed massive corporations to pollute our air and water, struck down student loan relief, helped politicians suppress our votes, and so much more.
Just weeks ago, those hand-picked justices made their greatest power grab yet in a series of cases, including Relentless Inc. v. Department of Commerce, when they granted themselves unprecedented authority to rewrite the rules in favor of the special interests, billionaires, and major corporations who finance their luxury vacations and private jet flights – at the expense of the American people.
We deserve a Court that serves as the protector of our democracy and the guardian of our fundamental freedoms — that affirms and protects our freedom to make our own health care decisions, including abortion care; our freedom to build our families with who we love and know that we will have equal access to care for each other and our children; our freedom to be heard at the ballot box and in the workplace; our freedom to live in safety — free from gun violence and polluted drinking water. We deserve a Court that puts the American people, our freedoms and our democracy, above the profits and political agendas of an elite few.
That Court can be a reality if we use our voices and hold Congress accountable to using its authority to act.
Now is the time to speak out and make clear that you expect your Members of Congress to stand up to the Supreme Court’s MAGA supermajority by committing to fix the Court.
Under this MAGA Supreme Court, we spend too many days holding our breath wondering whether we will end the day with fewer rights and freedoms than we started it with — whether our children and grandchildren will be born with fewer rights and freedoms than their parents and grandparents.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Who serves on the Supreme Court is not inevitable, the amount of unchecked power those justices have is not inevitable, and how our laws embrace or reject the justices’ harm is not inevitable — that’s up to the leaders we elect:
That means we have a critical role to play.
Right now, our Members of Congress have a choice to make: Stand up to the MAGA justices’ relentless power grab by committing to fix the Supreme Court OR enable the MAGA justices to take more control over our communities.
It’s time for us to come together and ensure they make the right one.
We deserve a Court that works for workers — but instead the MAGA justices continues to run the corporate playbook and rewrite the rules in favor of their billionaire backers. Now, with their power grab underway, the MAGA justices have more authority over our overtime pay, our collective action, and our accommodations and protections in the workplace. As long as this Court remains unchecked, workers and our unions remain under threat.
The MAGA justices owe their seats to the same billionaires funding the attacks on Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act so it’s not surprising that their latest power grab threatens a dangerous ripple effect across the programs and services our nation’s seniors and people with disabilities depend on — including resolving disputes over Social Security benefits and negotiating drug prices. It’s time to hold Congress accountable to fighting for our benefits and ensure they can’t lean on their allies on the high court to do their unpopular dirty work.
As housing costs rise, too many seniors living on fixed incomes are struggling to stay in their homes after a lifetime of work. It’s now expected that the population of homeless individuals who are 65 or older will double in the next few years. The MAGA Court’s response? Greenlighting cities to fine or arrest people for things like sleeping outside with a blanket or pillow even if they have nowhere else to go. We deserve a Court that knows corporate fraudsters should be held accountable, rather than one hell-bent on making the American people pay the price of corporate greed.
Last summer, the MAGA justices struck down President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan — leaving 40 million Americans, who were promised relief, to pay the price. This is a relentless power grab in action. Everyone, not just the rich and powerful, deserves a fair shot. Yet, the MAGA justices are rewriting the rules to advance their billionaire buddies’ agenda and block policies they don’t like.
Because of the MAGA Court’s rulings, 21 states and counting have banned or restricted access to abortion and 6 patients were airlifted out of Idaho to get emergency abortion care during the months the justices in the supermajority allowed the state’s ban to take effect. This is in direct contrast to the American people’s overwhelming support for abortion rights. The MAGA Court is willing to trade our freedoms and lives for their agenda. So long as the MAGA justices remain unaccountable, our reproductive freedoms — including IVF, birth control, medication abortion, and emergency abortion care — remain under attack.
When the MAGA justices struck down reproductive freedom, they put all of our personal freedoms on notice — opening the door to bans on gender affirming health care and lobbing continuous threats to same-sex marriage. This summer, they further set the paper trail to mount their attacks, which ultimately harm families and create instability for children as their decisions could be the difference between a child getting access to a local preschool, receiving critical medical treatment, or finding a loving home. Though the justices weaponize claims of religious freedom to cover up their shams and lies, it is clear that a relentless power grab, not respect for faith, is motivating these attacks.
Our government is supposed to be ‘of, by, and for’ the people, where everyone has an equal voice and our elected officials are accountable to us. However, the Supreme Court’s MAGA supermajority has taken a sledgehammer to the promises of democracy – gutting voting rights, allowing corporate money to speak louder than our votes, hamstringing the ability to fight racial gerrymandering, and granting king-like presidential immunity for Donald Trump to act with impunity. This is a power grab, plain and simple — corporate influence is growing and overruling the will of the people.
In recent years, the MAGA justices delivered huge victories for their big oil and corporate backers by rolling back protections against pollution in the air we breathe and water we drink, fish, and swim in. As the Court weakens our tools to combat the climate crisis and keep our communities safe, big polluters are further emboldened by their allies’ support to continue pursuing their dangerous and unpopular agenda for the sake of padding profits. We need Congress to fight for us — not enable the Court to gut critical protections.
We’re learning the best hiding spot in our classrooms when we should only be focused on learning fractions or reading comprehension. We’re keeping our phones on in the movie theater in case we need to send that text. We’re looking over our shoulder at the grocery store, the mall, the concert, in our places of worship, as we walk down the street. Yet, in the face of tens of thousands gun-related deaths each year, the MAGA Court has unleashed a flood of challenges to long-standing and widely-accepted gun violence prevention measures, just made it easier to turn firearms into machine guns, and grabbed authority away from the experts responsible for strengthening background checks. And this relentless power grab enables the gun lobby’s trusted MAGA allies on the Supreme Court to further distort the Second Amendment for the sake of special interest groups’ profits, no matter the cost to human life.
