Since President Trump appointed three justices to the Supreme Court, the MAGA supermajority has eliminated our right to abortion, made it harder to prevent school shootings, allowed massive corporations to pollute our air and water, struck down student loan relief, helped politicians suppress our votes, and so much more — all while accepting lavish ‘gifts’ from the network of right-wing mega-donors, strategists, and politicians who helped secure their seats.
Now, the hand-picked justices are preparing to rule in a series of cases, including Relentless Inc. v. Department of Commerce. With their pending decisions, the Supreme Court’s MAGA supermajority threatens to take even more power to rewrite the rules in favor of special interests, billionaires, and major corporations — helping the rich get richer and the powerful gain more power — at the expense of the American people.
We deserve a Court that serves as the protector of our democracy and the guardian of our fundamental freedoms — that affirms and protects our freedom to make our own health care decisions, including abortion care; our freedom to build our families with who we love and know that we will have equal access to care for each other and our children; our freedom to be heard at the ballot box and in the workplace; our freedom to live in safety — free from gun violence and polluted drinking water. We deserve a Court that puts the American people, our freedoms and our democracy, above the profits and political agendas of an elite few.
That Court can be a reality if we use our voices and hold Congress accountable to using its authority to act.
Now is the time to speak out and make clear that you expect your Members of Congress to stand up to the Supreme Court’s MAGA supermajority by committing to fix the Court.
On any given day, often in June, the rights and freedoms we woke up with can be stripped away from us before lunch.
As June approaches, we again hold our breath wondering whether we will end the day with fewer rights and freedoms than we started it with — whether our children and grandchildren will be born with fewer rights and freedoms than their parents and grandparents. It doesn’t have to be this way.
While the justices on the Supreme Court are not directly elected by the American people, they are put on the Court by leaders who are:
Who gets to sit on the Supreme Court is not inevitable, the amount of unchecked power those justices have is not inevitable, the political response to the justices’ harm is not inevitable — that’s up to the people we elect to represent us. That means we have a critical role to play.
Right now, our Members of Congress have a choice to make: Stand up to the MAGA justices’ relentless power grab by committing to fix the Supreme Court OR enable the MAGA justices to take more control over our communities.
It’s time for us to come together and ensure they make the right one.
The same MAGA justices caught in the pockets of billionaires and corporations are hearing a case that could hand a windfall of hundreds of billions of dollars to major multinational corporations while creating uncertainty for small businesses. Now — while corporate profits are at an all-time high, as they raise their prices on our families, and as they push small businesses out — is the time to make corporations pay their fair share. However, the relentless power grab could grant the MAGA justices authority to rewrite the rules so corporations can pay even less.
Relentless power grabbers have a history of using the courts to challenge worker health and safety rules and dismiss charges against employers who violate their employees’ rights. The MAGA supermajority’s power grab will supercharge those efforts by granting the justices, who are in the pockets of corporations, greater authority to decide whether job sites will have basic safety protections available or not, whether an employee’s overtime will be reflected in their paycheck or not, whether a pregnant worker can access accommodations or not, whether a corporation is held accountable for interfering with collective action or not. This is straight out of the corporate playbook of trying to write the rules to benefit themselves and prevent workers from making our voices heard.
The same billionaires pumping money into statewide judicial elections and nationwide campaigns to seat Supreme Court justices, have also spent decades funding an agenda that opposes Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP; years underwriting attacks on affordable health care; and are now mounting courtroom challenges to block drug price negotiations that have brought much needed relief to our communities. The MAGA justices are now poised to give themselves authority over the essential programs their billionaire backers are trying to gut.
Last summer, the MAGA justices struck down President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan — leaving 40 million Americans, who were promised relief, to pay the price. This is a relentless power grab in action. Everyone, not just the rich and powerful, deserves a fair shot. Yet, the MAGA justices are rewriting the rules to advance their billionaire buddies’ agenda and block policies they don’t like.
In 2022, the Supreme Court’s MAGA supermajority overturned the constitutional right to abortion. In the months since, 21 states and counting have banned or restricted access to abortion in direct contrast to the American people’s overwhelming support for abortion rights. And the threats are ongoing. The relentless power grab would further allow justices, judges, and their anti-abortion allies who have never been near a medical school to interfere with our personal health care decisions. And while they claim to be interfering on behalf of “states rights,” they are even entertaining cases that rely on horse-and-buggies-era arguments, to threaten access in states where lawmakers have expanded abortion protections.
When the MAGA justices struck down reproductive freedom, they put all of our personal freedoms on notice — opening the door to bans on gender affirming health care and lobbing continuous threats to same-sex marriage. These attacks harm families, create instability for children, and could be the difference between a child getting access to the local preschool, receiving critical medical treatment, or finding a loving home. Though the justices weaponize claims of religious freedom to cover up their shams and lies, it is clear that a relentless power grab, not respect for faith, is motivating these attacks.
Our government is supposed to be ‘of, by, and for’ the people, where everyone has an equal voice and our elected officials are accountable to us. However, not long after allowing corporations to spend unlimited money to upend our elections, a partisan majority on the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act — opening the door to nearly 100 statewide voter suppression laws aimed at blocking the freedom to vote and decide who represents us. This is a power grab, plain and simple — corporate influence is growing and overruling the will of the people.
In recent years, the MAGA justices tied the hands of scientists and experts by making it harder to curb greenhouse gas pollution under the Clean Air Act and limiting which bodies of water are protected from pollution under the Clean Water Act. The MAGA justices delivered huge victories for their big oil and corporate backers by rolling back protections against pollution in the air we breathe and water we drink, fish, and swim in. As the Court weakens our tools to combat the climate crisis, big polluters are further emboldened by their allies’ support to continue pursuing their dangerous and unpopular agenda for the sake of padding profits.
Two years ago, the Court’s MAGA justices decided that today’s laws aimed at curbing the gun violence epidemic of the 21st century must be similar to gun laws from the era of horses and buggies. As a result, long standing and widely accepted measures to curb the violence — including protections as straightforward as stopping people with domestic violence restraining orders from accessing guns — are in jeopardy. This relentless power grab would give the gun lobby’s trusted MAGA allies on the Supreme Court more power to distort the Second Amendment for the sake of special interest groups’ profits, no matter the cost to human life.
